Lucky you. I'm watching bad Lifetime movies. Although, can you think of anything more patriotic than that? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

No Fireworks here in Canada...(IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
I've been at the Montreal Gtr Show all weekend. Usual cast of wonderful characters, and the instruments they build (or play, in my case). Too many great instruments and moments to recount, or even remember. (That's how you know that we had a good time...) Believe it or not, I didn't take ANY pictures... sorry! Hopefully, some other folks will have... Hope everyone's 7/4 weekend was a great one! |

Hey Paul. I forgot that show was this weekend. I've always wanted to get up there. Just curious, how does that show stack up with Healdsburg and Newport(FL)?

Hey, Tom-
As many, many folks were heard to say this last weekend– Montreal sets the bar awfully high... almost UNFAIRLY so. For starters, the Fest organizers and staff are extremely organized, well-funded, and almost obsessive about creating a welcoming attitude for builders and players... and, I suspect, for attendees as well. As a result, everyone loves being there, and the vibe definitely permeates throughout the event. But the devil is also in the details... and Jacques-Andre and his staff seem to get almost all of those right, as well. Many playing cubicles for (more-or-less) quiet auditioning of guitars, non-claustrophobic rooms w/ fairly roomy aisles... all in a very comfortable, aesthetic-but-not-too-pretentious upscale hotel environment. Good rooms, sound systems and engineers for the mini-concerts. And on and on... But then... when you grow tired of looking at guitars– or when the show closes for the day– you walk down to the street, where there's a world-class street music festival in full swing, with streets blocked off, and crowds of extremely mellow, happy people enjoying music groups of many flavors, street performers, lots of food vendors, and stuff for kids of all ages to do. It's almost impossible NOT to dig it. Several years ago, many builders were overheard saying "I've got to bring my wife and kids next year". Now they DO... and everyone seems to have a blast. Can you tell I enjoy this festival? And for me, it's great, 'cuz it's only an 1 1/2 hr drive away! |

Wow Paul, I had heard it was the best, but I had no idea it was so well thought out and implemented. That seals it. Gotta go. Thanks for sharing Paul. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wootrock.gif)
